How are Displacement Sensors useful?

January 11th, 2012

Many measuring instruments can effectively measure displacement of the order of a few centimeters. But our choice really gets limited when we are requires to find instruments which can accurately major very minute displacement of the order of a few millimeters. The displacement sensors are extremely useful in such cases. It is extremely beneficial to use this measuring this instrument to measure small magnitudes of displacement because it is very easy to use. One of the major advantages behind employing such displacement sensors is that it consumes a very small amount and power and produces no noise interference, during its operation.

These displacement sensors have a very high bandwidth and are equipped with high resolution power. However they are not suitable for high frequency application because it produces a lot of noise interference and the reading is also not very accurate. However it is extremely useful in measuring smaller frequency with a very high level of precision. One of the disadvantage of using sensors are they are extremely vulnerable to temperature changes and this has a great effect in their measured readings. Displacement sensors are also very sensitive to vibration and any such disturbance can greatly affect the accuracy of measurement of this instrument.
